Most of the recruiters are strictly requiring an Engineering / Technical graduation to consider for technical position. It may be right that those possessing an engineering / technical graduation have a proof that they are capable of performing in the core areas. In this process, recruiters are missing other graduates who are equally capable of performing in core engineering areas. But for the employers to get the comfort level that the non engineering graduate will perform for the given technical area on par with engineering graduates, the interview process have to be little more in depth.
More than graduation, the experience one has gained is very important. Non Technical graduates who have put in experience in technical roles for reasonable number of years are better equiped to to handle techno functional roles, which is the need of the hour.
