And the reason that I can give for why we are no longer manufacturing heros in our country is that we're no longer in need of heros. Did I sound cynical??? But I mean it. We've basking too much in the glory of our past heros and the need of the hour is to forget about who would be the hero and just work towards betterment. What we need is a collective effort and not a leader to tag behind. In todays world everyone should be a hero and hence there's no relevance to being a hero. |

I too agree with Mr. Kapur's argument that no generation was better than the previous. That's not the essence of evolution. I can tell you about a historical charecter(architect) called Perunthachhan. I can bet no one in our times can equal him in his field. Yet I don't mean to say that he was better. He didn't have the gadgets that we have now and had to find his way around for meeting his needs. Follow the link to know more:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perumthachan. |

Thanks for your comment Anand. as you rightly said any significant achievement including motherhood is painful and has risks involved. no gain without pain as the saying goes... |

dear kapur,
Dont you feel there is this increasing tendency to gloat in reflected glory or idolize achievers without wanting to emulate through hard work. Westernization or aping their culture is no execuse for not being able to go beyond the easy, quick success or cushy life minus hard work motto. The problem lies within and in the talent market where demand still outstrips supply. |

Excellent posting and I appreciate your voice but then, you know Transformation is a painful phase still India is changing and changing very fast now. We, as Indians must be a part of its change rather than being mere spectators. |

>> Why are we not having a few million or even a 100 million success stories?
The art of "success" will come to us slowly. We used to be good - but that was a couple of centuries ago. Now we're just aping the western models of success and pandering to its needs.
It will happen, and, I don't think there's any reason to hurry this process at all. |

>> So we are multiple notches better than our predecessors.
I don't really think that's true Jai. We're better at some things and worse at others.
What happens is that things we're better at are obviously more in demand now that they were at the time of the "predecessors" .. put another way - Our "predecessors" were better at things that were relevant then and are not so much relevant now. |
